Camp Blanding Museum and Memorial Park, home of the Florida National Guard

Camp Blanding has achieved national standing as a World War II Commemorative Community. This park allows visitors an insight into the life in and around Camp Blanding during World War II and has contributed to the education of thousands on the impact of war.

Hawthorne Historical Museum and Cultural Center

The building housing this museum was built in 1907 as a church for one of the town’s African-American congregations. It contains relics and memorabilia from the early town’s lifestyles.

Historic Haile Homestead at Kanapaha Plantation

In 1854 Thomas Evans and Serena Chesnut Haile established this 1500-acre Sea Island cotton plantation that they named Kanapaha. The Historic Haile Homestead is known for its “talking walls.” For some reason lost to time, the Haile family wrote on the walls of their home, in almost every room and closet. This museum stands as a snapshot of history, frozen in time.

Matheson Historical Center

The Matheson Museum is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of Alachua County. The complex includes four sites: the Matheson Museum, containing the exhibit hall and research library, the Matheson House, the Tison Tool Museum and Sweetwater Park.

Micanopy Historical Society Museum

The museum is located in an 1890s warehouse on the main street of Micanopy. Exhibits reflect local history from Timucuan Indians to the arrival of the Spanish, William Bartram’s visit, early settlement in the beginning 1800s, the Seminole Wars, Civil War, life in the early 1900s and town development to the present.
